    When to Use SPF for Sensitive Skin to Avoid UV Damage

    Using SPF for sensitive skin requires careful consideration, especially when you’re prone to dryness and breakouts. Everyone deserves to enjoy the feel-good element that comes with being out in the sun, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of your complexion.

    Wear SPF for Sensitive Skin Regardless of the Weather

    SPF for sensitive skin is something you should be wearing each and every day, no matter what the weather is like outside. That’s your first helpful pointer. Even when the sky is overcast and gloomy, the reason why you can see where you’re going is because sunlight – along with those UV rays – is penetrating the clouds and hitting your skin. 

    So, it needs to be applied to the places that are typically exposed when outside, such as the face, hands, and neck. It should be applied at least 15-30 minutes before you go out. That said, if you’re wearing mineral sunscreen, there’s no need to wait that long as it works straight away. 

    Even if you’re not going out but you are sitting near a window working, sunscreen is also a necessity. The same UVA rays that can get through the clouds can penetrate closed windows and potentially burn or age the skin. 

    If You Get Sweaty, Reapply! 

    Reapplication is essential every 2 hours, as most people are aware of. However, depending on what you’re up to when you’re outside, it may need to be more frequent. That’s because unless you’re wearing a sports-formula sunscreen – i.e. one that offers water resistance – any physical activity that causes you to sweat is going to degrade its effectiveness.

    You don’t need to be swimming to have enough water on your skin for it to become displaced and stop protecting you, so it’s something you need to focus on. 

    So, as to the subject of when to use your sensitive skin SPF, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning as part of your daily routine. That way, you won’t forget to wear it and leave yourself vulnerable. Of course, you could simply do it just before going out, but with such busy lives, it’s easy to overlook.

    What you have to remember is that if you have skin issues, such as acne, many of the treatments can leave you more vulnerable than most to sun damage. Benzoyl peroxide, for example, can leave you with photo sensitivities, meaning that it’s vital to safeguard your skin. 

    Moreover, issues like eczema and rosacea can flare up when directly exposed to the sun, so either way, going out with sunscreen on is non-negotiable and shouldn’t be considered.
