The bat and its weight
Whenever people are talking about a bat’s “drop,” they’re referring to the discrepancy between the bat’s length (in inches) and weight (in ounces). For instance, if the bat is a “drop 10,” which is sometimes written as “-10,” then there is a 10 differential in its length and weight. For instance, a 34-inch bat with 10-degree dip weighs 24 ounces.

Repairs and maintenance of your cricket bat
To improve the performance of the bat, spend more time banging it in with a cricket mallet, throwdowns, or a bowling machine. Bowling machine balls are a great way to get your bat ready because they are much more forgiving than regular cricket balls.
- Additionally, bat mallets should be handled with extreme caution and should be struck in all regions where one would typically expect to hit the ball with progressively more force.
- Never strike the edges or toe at a right angle, as this is likely to cause damage. After the oil has finished drying fully, a sheet of anti-scuff can be applied. In order to extend the life and effectiveness of the bat, facing is added.
- Don’t let the bat get soaked, particularly the toe. It is very natural for cracks to develop on the bat’s face or edges without anti-scuff covering. If this happens, sand them out and coat the sanded parts with oil. The bat’s face, sides, and toe should always be kept dry and clean.
